Opportunities for Homeschooled, non-certified Private School, and KDE Certified Non-Public School Students in STLP

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and the Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) proudly welcome all Kentucky students to explore and utilize the free STLP resources available through the STLP website. These resources (including project guides, toolkits, and learning materials)are openly available to support digital learning, creativity, and innovation in every Kentucky home and classroom.

Focus: Homeschooled Students and Non-Certified Private Schools and STLP

Homeschooled students, and non-certified private school students, are encouraged to use any STLP resource for learning purposes and personal growth. However, participation in official STLP events and competitions requires affiliation with a recognized school or district STLP program.

Homeschooled students who wish to participate in STLP competitions or events should follow the guidance of their local public school district regarding inclusion in district-led extracurricular activities. Many Kentucky districts have established policies or procedures that allow homeschooled students to take part in such opportunities. Families are encouraged to contact their local district office to learn more about the specific options available in their community.

If a local public school district permits homeschooled students or non-certified private schools to participate and the student(s) becomes an active member(s) of that district’s or school’s STLP group, the student is eligible to compete as a representative of that district or school. Without the official approval or support of the local district to participate as part of a recognized STLP group, both homeschooled students and non-certified private school students are not eligible to participate in STLP competitions or events.

Focus: Certified Non-Public Schools and STLP

All current certified non-public schools recognized by the Kentucky Department of Education are welcome to participate fully in all STLP events and competitions. A list of KDE-certified non-public schools is available at:

All STLP resources are provided free of charge and may be used with open permission from the Kentucky Department of Education and the Student Technology Leadership Program for educational purposes.
